- This concerns a very recent product, the DKB RapidFire SCSI controller
- which only came out a few weeks ago. I have contacted DKB, but the week
- end has come, and I have a sinking feeling my problems have more to do
- with compatibility than with the rapidset config files which they had me
- email them. I will cut to the chase:
-
- --------| |----------| |-----|
- migraph | |rapidfire | |NEC |
- flatbed | ......|scsi board| ......|hard | (internal)
- scanner | | | |drive|
- --------| |----------| |-----|
- add 4 add 7 add 1
- terminated unterminated terminated
-
- With this, the agreed upon configuration, the harddrive and
- scanner are both unrecognized. When scanner is disconected hard drive is
- recognized as long as either the board or the drive is terminated. It is
- recognized even if both board and drive are terminated.
-
- The external device, the scanner, has lots of problems though. With hd
- disconected, board terminated, scanner unterminated, scanner crashes
- durring scan. With Scanner terminated, board unterminated, system crashes
- after booting up. Funny thing is if hard drive is connected and
- terminated along with board, the scanner is a little bit more stable, but
- ultimately crashes. (hard drive, of course is not recognized)
-
- I have a a4000, with OS3.1, rev 9 buster,(should it matter?), computer
- boots off amiga 120mb scsi emulating ide drive.
-
- Sorry for long post, but this is as good a place to vent as any other.
- Any help would be appreciated.
-
- BTW, I exchanged a DataFlyer 4000SX scsi card for this one because the
- DataFlyer had soldered termination resistors - where as the RapidFire's
- terminators are socketed. But the scanner worked nearly flawlessly on
- the dataflyer, so did the hard drive - just not at the same time -
- because the board couldn't be unterminated. So I guess I exchanged
- problems.
